Japanese-Style Fried Tofu
This Japanese-style fried tofu dish is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a savory-sweet flavor from the soy sauce marinade. It's a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed as a snack, appetizer, or main course.
Ingredients:
- 1 block firm tofu, drained and pressed
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon mirin
- 1 tablespoon sake
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions:
Cut the tofu into square segments
To make the marinade, combine the soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar in a shallow dish
After dipping each piece of tofu into the marinade, let it sit for fifteen minutes
Once the tofu has marinated, evenly coat each piece with cornstarch
In a frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat
Fry the tofu pieces for 34 minutes on each side, or until they are crispy and golden brown
Take out the tofu from the pan and set it on a plate covered with paper towels to absorb any extra oil
Serve hot as a garnish for rice bowls or as a dip for other foods
